A General Minecraft Guide

Getting started

• Find a tree and start punching it.
• With logs, make wooden planks, then sticks.
• Make a wooden pickaxe with 2 sticks and wooden planks.
• If you can, you should start farming as soon as possible (see below).
• Find the nearest exposed stone, or dig a staircase down until you find stone.
• Make a stone pickaxe with 2 sticks and 3 cobblestone.
• Find and mine coal. You can make 4 torches with 1 stick and 1 coal.
• Mine at least one block of gravel until you get a piece of flint.
• Find and mine iron for an iron pickaxe.
• Find and mine diamond for a diamond pickaxe.

Farming

If you want an enchanting table, you will want to start your farm at the very start, because this process takes a lot of idling.

• If you’re in a grassy biome, harvest nearby grass for wheat seeds.
• Make a hoe with 2 sticks and 2 planks or cobblestone.
• Right click dirt blocks around a body of water to make tilled dirt. The water hydrates up to 4 blocks outward.
• Plant wheat seeds on tilled dirt.
• While you’re waiting for wheat to grow, look for sugar cane at the edge of any body of water. Harvest all of it except for the bottom block and replant more.
• Once you have wheat, find at least two cows, and lure them to your base by holding wheat in your hand.
• If the cows get distracted, swap to a different item and walk around a bit, then come back with the wheat.
• Breed the cows with wheat. Kill excess cows. Harvest sugar cane.

To make the bookshelves:

1. Craft 23 logs into 92 planks
2. Craft 138 (2 stacks + 10) pieces of sugar cane into 138 pieces of paper
3. Craft 138 paper and 46 leather into 46 books
4. Craft 2 diamonds, 4 obsidian, and 1 book into 1 enchanting table
5. Craft 90 planks and 45 books into 15 bookshelves
6. idk, eat the other 2 planks

The Nether

• Make a bucket with 3 pieces of iron.
• Right click on a body of water with your bucket.
• Find lava. Lava can either be found deep underground, or in exposed pockets on the overworld.
• Pour water on the lava to turn it into obsidian.
• Dig up 10 pieces of obsidian with a diamond pickaxe. Do not dig from on top of the obsidian or you might fall into lava underneath.
• Build a Nether Portal. It’s a 4 blocks wide, 5 blocks tall rectangular frame of obsidian. For the corners, use dirt.
• Craft a flint & steel with 1 flint and 1 steel iron ingot.
• Right click on the Nether Portal with the flint & steel to light it.

In the Nether, you will want to collect Ender Pearls from Endermen and Blaze Rods from Blazes.

The End

The absolute bare minimum:

• Enchanted sword
• Enchanted bow
• Enchanted armor
• Any pickaxe
• Building blocks
• A water bucket
• Your best healing items

• Don’t dig directly down unless you really know what you’re doing.
• Skeleton horses can be ridden underwater.
